Dr. Michelle Fabiani received a bachelor's degree in Veterinary Science from Texas A&M in 1991. In 1993 she received her DVM, also from Texas A&M University. Following graduation she practiced general veterinary medicine in Houston for 6 years. Dr. Fabiani joined Gulf Coast Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging in 1999. She completed her three year radiology residency in 2001. Dr. Fabiani is board certified by the American College of Veterinary Radiology. Her interests include computed tomography and ultrasound.

Dr. Poteet attended Texas A&M University where he obtained his undergraduate degrees, an MS in Veterinary Physiology, followed by a DVM in 1991. He then completed a 3-year residency program in veterinary radiology at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He has been the Director of Diagnostic Imaging at Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists in Houston, TX since 1994. He is board certified by the American College of Veterinary Radiology as well as by the American Board of Science in Nuclear Medicine. He is a visiting professor of radiology at the College of Veterinary Medicine, Texas A & M University and is in adjunct faculty member of the Southwest Foundation for Biomedical Research in San Antonio, TX. In addition to scientific publications, he has presented numerous presentations covering various topics including radiology, ultrasound, nuclear medicine and magnetic resonance imaging. His special interests include veterinary nuclear medicine and ultrasound.

DR. GLEN K. KING received his D.V.M. from Auburn University.  He is Board Certified in Radiology and Radiation Oncology and a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Radiology. He is the founder of Gulf Coast Veterinary Oncology (1989) and Gulf Coast Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging (1994).  He specializes in the multidisciplinary approach to managing the cancer patient, with particular emphasis in radiation therapy.

DR. MELISSA ENDICOTT received her D.V.M. in 2001 from Texas A & M's College of Veterinary Medicine, completed a Small Animal Medicine & Surgery Internship in 2002 from Angell Memorial Hospital for Animals in Boston, and completed a Medical Oncology Residency in 2004 in a joint program between the Animal Medical Center, New York and the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine. She is a board certified Medical Oncologist by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine. We are thrilled that Dr. Endicott is a part of our team and providing state-of-the-art care for our patients with cancer. 

Dr. Derek P. Burney received his DVM from Texas A&M University in 1991.  He did a one-year internship at Auburn University followed by a residency in small animal internal medicine and PhD in molecular parasitology at Colorado State University.  He was board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in 1995. In his spare time,  Dr Burney enjoys spending time in family activities with his two children and has a real interest in military aviation.  Dr. Burney joined Dr. Vulgamott and Dr. Heald at Gulf Coast Veterinary Internists in 1997.

Dr. A. Melissa Garcia-Lacaze received her DVM from Texas A&M University in 1998. She did a one year emergency and critical care internship followed by a three year emergency and critical care residency at the Animal Emergency Center in Glendale, WI. She was board -certified by the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care in 2003.

Dr. Jim C. Vulgamott received his DVM from the University of Missouri in 1977.  He completed a one-year internship followed by a residency in small animal internal medicine at Texas A&M University.    He became board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in 1984.  Dr. Vulgamott is one of the original founders of Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists and has been practicing referral internal medicine in Houston for the past 17 years.

Dr. Chris Jones received his DVM from Texas A&M University in 1990.  He was in private practice in El Paso, Texas for 7 years before deciding to pursue a career in internal medicine.  He did a one-year internship followed by a three-year residency in small animal internal medicine at the University of Georgia.  He was board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in 2001.  Dr. Jones joined Gulf Coast Veterinary Internists in 2001.

Dr. Karin Beale received both her Bachelor of Science degree in biology and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Florida. After graduation, she was engaged in private clinical practice in the Washington, D.C. area before returning to the University of Florida for her dermatology residency. After residency, she attained board-certification status, and remained on faculty at the University for four years before leaving to found Gulf Coast Veterinary Dermatology and Allergy in Houston, TX.

Dr. Valerie Fadok received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Washington State University in 1978, after which she did an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the West Los Angeles Veterinary Medical Group. A residency in veterinary and comparative dermatology followed at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine, and Dr. Fadok became board-certified in veterinary dermatology in 1982. Dr. Fadok served as an assistant professor and staff dermatologist for two years at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine, after which she returned to the University of Florida as assistant professor to work in the small animal clinic and to develop the subspecialty of large animal dermatology. These years in the clinic seeing so many dogs, cats, and horses with chronically inflamed skin inspired her desire to try to understand inflammation and how it could be better controlled. Dr. Fadok entered graduate school at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and 4 1/2 years later earned her PhD in Experimental Pathology; her thesis covered a novel way in which dying cells in the body were tagged for elimination and how this elimination controlled inflammation. She spent the next two years as a Research Fellow at National Jewish Medical and Research Center refining these studies, then became Associate Professor at Texas A & M’s veterinary school, where she continued to treat small and large animals with skin disease and research how melanomas regressed in Sinclair swine. In 1995, she returned to National Jewish in Denver where for 9 years she continued her research on how dying cells controlled inflammation. In 2004, she found she really missed her patients and the care of animals with skin disease, and joined Veterinary Skin and Allergy Specialists at the Veterinary Referral Center of Colorado. A recent family move to the great state of Texas has given her the opportunity to work part time with the talented veterinarians and staff at Gulf Coast Veterinary Dermatology and Allergy. Dr. Fadok has lectured internationally, nationally, and locally on subjects relating to veterinary skin disease, immunology, and inflammation.

Dr. Suzanne L. Hunter received her D.V.M. from Cornell University in 1999.  She completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Oradell Animal Hospital in New Jersey followed by a 3-year surgery residency at The Ohio State University.  Following her residency, she returned to Oradell Animal Hospital where she held the position of staff surgeon for one year.  Dr. Hunter became Board Certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2004.  She joined Gulf Coast Veterinary Surgery in 2004.

DR. HEIDI A. HOTTINGER received her D.V.M. from The Ohio  State University in 1990, followed by an internship at The Animal Medical Center in New York City. She then completed a surgical residency at Michigan State University with special rotations in surgical oncology at Colorado State University and Flint Medical Center. Following her residency, she returned to The Animal Medical Center in New York where she held the position of staff surgeon and instructor for two years. She is board certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. She joined Gulf Coast Veterinary Surgery in 1996.

DR. WILLIAM D. LISKA received his D.V.M. from Iowa State  University in 1973. He came to Houston in 1976 after completing his internship and surgical residency at The Animal Medical Center in New York and has been receiving referral surgery patients since then. He became Board Certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 1980. He is a founder of Gulf Coast Veterinary Surgery in 1988 and Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists in 1989.

DR. WAYNE O. WHITNEY received his D.V.M. from Louisiana  State University in 1982. After one year of general practice in Houston, he completed a one year internship and a three year surgical residency at the Animal Medical Center in New York. He became Board Certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 1989. Dr. Whitney was with Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists when its doors opened that same year.

DR.CARLEY ABRAMSON received her DVM in 1999 from Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine in Massachusetts, and went on to the University of Georgia for a rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery.   Her residency training in neurology and neurosurgery was completed at the University of Wisconsin and the Animal Health Trust in Newmarket, England under the guidance of American and European specialists.  While in England, Dr. Abramson developed an interest in metabolic disease affecting the nervous system, and continued investigations in this area when she joined the faculty at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2003. As an assistant professor and clinical neurologist/neurosurgeon at Ohio State, her research interests expanded to include congenital/heritable neurological disorders such as hydrocephalus and Chiari-like malformation.  Dr. Abramson became board certified by the ACVIM (Neurology) in 2004. Dr. Abramson joined Gulf Coast Veterinary Surgery, Orthopedics and Neurology in 2005.

Dr. Natalie Antinoff is Board Certified in Avian Practice. She has completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery, and a residency in Avian and Exotic Pet Medicine and  Surgery at The Animal Medical Center in New York. She treats a wide variety of species, including birds, reptiles, amphibians, and small mammals. She has a special interest and has done her research in advanced imaging of birds, including CT and MRI. Collaboration with the other specialists already available will now allow diagnostic and therapeutic strategies tailored to the specific needs of birds and exotic pets.Dr. Antinoff lectures locally and nationally and has authored articles and chapters in professional texts and journals. She serves on the Credentials Committee for veterinarians applying for Avian Board Certification. She also serves as a mentor for veterinarians seeking board certification. Veterinary students spend time at Gulf Coast Avian & Exotics as part of their elective rotation. Dr. Antinoff holds memberships in the following professional organizations: Harris County Veterinary Medical Association, American Veterinary Medical Association, Association of Reptile and Amphibian Veterinarians, Association of Avian Veterinarians, and the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners.

Dr. Sue Chen, a native Houstonian, is Board Certified in Avian Practice. She is a graduate of Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine, where she created a specialized veterinary curriculum track focusing on exotic animals.  She also spent time training at the National Zoo in Washington, DC, as well as Canada and Australia, where she participated in a wildlife sanctuary and a zoo.  After veterinary school, Dr. Chen completed an internship at Gulf Coast Avian & Exotics, followed by a residency in Avian and Exotic Pet Medicine and Surgery at The Animal Medical Center in New York. Her areas of research and interest include development and testing of new assays for easier detection of lead poisoning in birds, and dental abscesses in rabbits.

Dr. Holly Polf is originally from Tulsa, Oklahoma. She received a bachelor’s degree from Baylor University before attending veterinary school at Oklahoma State University. Immediately following veterinary school, Dr Polf did a one year rotating small animal medicine and surgery internship at Florida Veterinary Specialists in Tampa, Florida. She moved to Houston and worked for three years as a small animal general practitioner before starting a Radiology internship at Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists. She is currently a radiology resident at Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists

Dr. Jade Wong received her DVM from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, St Kitts in 2005. Prior to joining GCVS she worked at Atlantic Coast Veterinary Specialists and Ultravet Diagnostics and referral Center in New York where she completed a one-year rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery and worked two years as a staff doctor in emergency medicine.

Dr. Elias Gumpel received a B.S. in Biology from The University of Texas at Austin in 1998 and then went on to receive his D.V.M. degree from Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine in 2004. He spent the next four years as a general practitioner in Katy, TX and is now pursuing specialization in the field of Veterinary Radiation Oncology as an intern here at Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists.

Dr. Katherine Irwin is the current dermatology intern with Gulf Coast Veterinary Dermatology and Allergy. She is a Nebraska native and graduated from Kansas State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 2005. She then completed a 1 year small animal medicine and surgery internship at two VCA practices in the Chicago area (VCA Berwyn and VCA Aurora) in 2006. Since then Dr. Irwin has been in private small animal practice as a general practitioner in both Omaha, NE and most recently in Topeka, KS. She began her dermatology internship at Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists in July 2008. Dr. Irwin intends to complete a dermatology residency after her internship and become a specialist in veterinary dermatology.

Dr. Jessica Hokamp is a graduate of Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine. She has long had an interest in zoo, wildlife, and exotic species. While in veterinary school, she worked at the Texas A&M Wildlife and Exotic Animal Center. She participated in Marvet, a marine veterinary medicine program, and did a preceptorship at Fossil Rim Wildlife Center. Additionally, she has volunteered her time to several companion animal reserve and adoption organizations.

Dr. Amber C. McAlister received her DVM from Tufts University in 2006. After graduation she completed a one year rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Georgia Veterinary Specialists in Atlanta, GA. She began the three year residency program at Gulf Coast Veterinary Internists in July 2007.

NANCY D. DOYLE, MPT attended Texas A&M University for three years, then completed her studies at UTMB-Galveston to receive her Master of Physical Therapy (MPT) degree.  She became licensed in Physical Therapy in 1996 and practiced for six years in numerous facilities providing care to humans, including Texas Orthopedic Hospital in Houston.  She completed coursework and an internship through the University of Tennessee, the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), and personal studies to prepare for her transition into the rehabilitation of animals.  Nancy is an active member of the APTA, TPTA, and the Animal Special Interest Group (SIG).  After years of informal collaboration, Nancy joined Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists in 2002 to create and develop Gulf Coast Animal Rehabilitation and Fitness.


Karen Ellis, RVT s moved to Houston in 2003 after graduating from Palo Alto College to work at Gulf Coast Veterinary Surgery as an Operating Room Technician. In 2005, a move took her to the Brenham/College Station area, where she worked for Texas A&M and Brenham Veterinary Hospital. Realizing her true passion is a fast-paced surgical environment, she returned to GCVS in 2006. She now lives in Cypress with her husband, daughter, and two dogs, Roxi and Pickles.

Sarah Harvey, RVT has been working in veterinary medicine for 10 years. Her training has been in small animal, farm animal, exotics, and currently in referral specialty practice in surgery and neurology. She has had additional training with Hitachi to perform the hospital’s MRIs. Her current position with Surgery and Neurology is O.R. Technician.

Cherie Murphy, RVT has worked for eight years at Gulf Coast Veterinary Surgery. She is experienced in emergency medicine and wildlife rehabilitation. She has served as clinical study coordinator for various types of studies with Dr. Brian Beale at Gulf Coast, and various outside companies. Cherie’s family includes two dogs, four cats, and Flap Jack – the most awesome Prairie Dog in the whole wide world!

Cindy Parker, RVT has worked in veterinary medicine for thirteen years. She has served on the TVMA Technician Oversight Committee for the past nine years. She is currently working toward a Veterinary Technician Specialty in Anesthesia. Hobbies enjoyed outside veterinary medicine include crafting jewelry and country western dancing. Cindy and her husband live with two dogs, three cats, and a parakeet.

Jeannie Clark CVA II, Jeannie has worked in the veterinary field for six years, and has work at Gulf Coast Veterinary Internist for two and a half years. She has worked in Large and small animal practices but has mainly worked in small animal emergency hospitals. When she's not in school Jeannie is usually out working with dairy bull calves in college station that are part of the research project she's involved in. She enjoys spending time outdoors and working with the patients at work. She's a senior at Texas A&M University, and hopefully will be attending their vet school in the fall of 2009. Jeannie has three cats: Toby, Phelix, and Aggie and one dog named Mickey that keeps her company while in College Station.

Cindy Foster has been a veterinary technician in Houston for the past twenty eight years. She first began her career in day practice and wildlife conservation and rehabilitation.  The last six years of her career have primarily been in emergency and critical care, as well as in the veterinary laboratory. Her college education consists of biochemistry and microbiology, whereby, she is in her fourth year.
